Core business of Nedcam is CNC milling. More specific it is all about machining relatively soft materials in large measures up to 25 metres length!!

The materials often used by Nedcam are:

The milling is done on different machinery, all with their own specific measures and abilities.

3-axis machines. These are used for:
Outline machining of flat products
Milling of interieurs
Milling of simple 3D curved shapes

5-axis machines. These are used for:
Milling of complex 3D shapes
Cutting off production flanges
Maching from scale model to 25 metre base model

In order to remain having the utmost variation in possibilities and utmost efficiency in milling, Nedcam uses apart from their own machines also machines of strategic partners.

3-axis machining:
In case of 3-axis milling the fast spinning tool is fixed in one position in the ridig tool head. This tool head can only move in X, Y (flat surface) and Z-direction (in height). Usually this type is used for flat products. In case of heavy curvature the Z-height is limited and on vertical surfaces machining marks would be clearly visible.

5-axis machining:
In case of 5-axis milling the tool head can move as in 3-axis plus it can turn in 2 directions. Big advantage here is the tool being perpendicular to the surface nearly all the time. The sequential steps in the tool path are optimal with respect to the curved surface and therefore creates a nice smooth surface. Moreover undercuts are possible as far as the tool can reach.
