EPS can simply be cut with a hot wire. In this way EPS can be shaped quite quickly at relatively low cost. The machines specially developed for this task operate as follows:

An iron wire is tightened between 2 portals

Current through the wire creates a temperature increase of the wire

Subsequently the wire is pulled through the EPS which melts away just before the wire

As long as the speed of the wire is constant, the cut surface will be nice and smooth
As the cutting is done by a wire it can not create 3D objects. The independent movement of the wire on either side, makes 2,5 D shaping possible with this technique.
Nedcam usually combines several techniques to create the most efficient final result. Thus cutting is e.g. also used for pre-cutting of raw blocks to avoid unnecessary big amounts of EPS waste during milling of the final shape.
